From www.washingtonpost.com:

A 16-year-old runner who texted a family member to say that he was being chased by a black bear during a popular race over mountainous terrain in Alaska was killed Sunday, triggering an intense search for the bear by wildlife authorities.

Patrick “Jack” Cooper, who had just completed the 10th grade, was competing in the juniors division of the Robert Spurr Memorial Hill Climb, a rigorous race that is in its 29th year. The race director told KTUU that the runner was beginning his descent near the halfway point on Bird Ridge Trail, which takes runners up a mountain that rises over the Seward Highway between Anchorage and Girdwood. Juniors race to the halfway point, about 1.5 miles from the start, before heading down.

“The mother was here with her family, her children,” Anchorage Police Dept. Sgt. Nathan Mitchell told KTUU. “They were running the race.”

That, according to the obituary posted on his funeral home’s website, was not unusual for Cooper. “He loved the beach, the hot tub and the trampoline. He had a great basketball three-point shot,” his obit states. “He ran races, fished like a champion, inner-tubed at the lake and was an avid hockey fan. He loved board games like chess and Monopoly. He enjoyed beating his grandmother at Wii bowling and being a wolf in his iPad wolf simulator game. His favorite food and drink were cheese and root beer with no ice.”

His obituary notes that he was a student at East Anchorage High School. “Jack came into the world as Patrick Stephen Woodward. He was a tiny fighter, cared for at the Providence Hospital NICU for two months and then by his birth family for two more months. Then he became ours; Patrick Jack-Stephen Cooper. Jack was a gift. He was a special ed student whose challenges were far exceeded by his joy and excitement for life. We are all better people for the honor of having him in our lives. He will be dearly missed.” He is survived by both sets of parents as well as by a number of other relatives and his funeral will take place June 24.

Sightings and even encounters with bears are not, of course, unusual in Alaska, but mauling deaths are. “I’ve been running in the mountains for 30 years,” Brad Precosky, a race director, said. “People come down off the trail and say they’ve run into a bear. Sometimes that means nothing; other times, it’s really serious. Like this.”

When a member of Cooper’s family received the text message, he sought Precosky. “I went off and talked to him about it, trying to get a straight story,” Precosky said. “He was very shaken and had received this communication.”

Park rangers and officials believe that Cooper got off-trail as he descended. Other runners say they had lost the teen in thick brush and, when they came running down the trail to report the attack, runners and officials ran to help. One runner said he had seen a bear circling a teen. Using GPS coordinates from the teen’s phone, searchers were able to find the boy, but were unable to immediately close in because the bear was standing over him.

From craigmedred.news:

A black bear that killed a 27-year-old Anchorage woman in central Alaska on Monday appears to have hunted down the woman and a colleague while they were conducting environmental surveys for the Pogo Mine.

The bear jumped one of the women from behind before she had any chance react, and then moved on to the woman’s colleague, their employer, himself a wildlife biologist, said Thursday.

An attempt to drive the bear off with pepper spray failed.  The efficacy of pepper spray has been questioned in other cases involving predatory black bears.

Dead is 27-year-old Erin Johnson, a lifelong Alaskan who grew up in Anchorage and celebrated her wedding only two weeks ago. Injured was 38-year-old Ellen Trainor of Fairbanks.

Both had spent countless hours in the Alaska wilderness and were well familiar with bears.

They were working in brushy terrain in the Tanana uplands when attacked, said Steve Murphy, the president of Alaska Biological Research said Thursday. ABR is a small, environmental consulting firm that started in Fairbanks before adding an office in Anchorage.

ABR staff were in shock over a seemingly inexplicable incident.

“Both of them were very experienced outdoor people,” Murphy said, but the experience could not save them from a predatory black bear.

From www.nationalreview.com:

The FBI has published a brief report on the shooting in Alexandria. It is devastating to the idea that the gun-control measures presently coveted by the Democratic party would have done something to prevent the attack.

Over the past two decades, Democrats have focused on three major proposals for reform. They are:

1) That all private transfers should be contingent upon a federal background check; 2) That firearms that look a certain way should be classed as “assault weapons” and prohibited from sale; and
3) That civilians should be forbidden from buying magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. None of these proposals intersect with what happened in Alexandria.

First, the FBI confirms that Hodgkinson moved to Virginia in March of 2017:

In March 2017, Hodgkinson, of Belleville, Illinois, told a family member that he was traveling to Washington D.C., but he did not provide any additional information on his travel. FBI analysis of Hodgkinson’s computers showed a Google search of truck stops, maps, and toll-free routes to the Northern Virginia area. Prior to his travel, local law enforcement in Belleville had been called to Hodgkinson’s residence due to complaints of target practice he was conducting on his property. Local law enforcement requested he keep the noise down but determined Hodgkinson was not in violation of any local laws. Hodgkinson’s prior criminal record includes a charge of domestic battery in 2006. Evidence collected thus far indicates Hodgkinson had been in the Alexandria area since March 2017.

It then confirms where ? and how ? he obtained his weapons:

The investigation thus far determined that Hodgkinson purchased his SKS 7.62mm caliber rifle in March 2003 and 9mm handgun in November 2016 legally through federal firearms licensees. The investigation has determined that there were cartridges found to be chambered in the SKS rifle and the FBI’s Evidence Response Team found 9mm and 7.62mm shell casings on scene. The SKS rifle was modified to accept a detachable magazine and the original stock was replaced with a folding stock.

From www.studentofthegun.com:

*Authors Note: The following steps will only work if your subject has the capacity for rational thought. When speaking to a liberal progressive, using logic, facts, and reason to support your position will not have any effect. Liberalism is a mental disease and progressives further their agenda through lies. An attempt to argue logic and facts with a liberal is akin to teaching a pig to ride a bike. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Smashing the Gun Control (human control) argument is so easy that even a Columbia journalism major could do it, if they some how possessed the courage to try. What follows is a simple three step process to addressing the argument for civilian disarmament. All so-called “gun control” regulations exempt the government, or more aptly, employees of the state.

Gun control laws also by definition exempt criminals and those with criminal intent. A criminal is a person prone to or engaged in “unlawful activity”.  Therefore, Malum Prohibitum laws concerning firearms will not prevent a criminal from possessing or using a gun in the commission of a crime. A violation of an existing Malum Prohibitum statute is merely an additional charge to add to the charges of Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, etc.

If the stated purpose of the gun control law is to “save lives” we can clearly see that criminal behavior will not be affected as they have already made a conscious decision to violate the law. To state that a creature, who is willing to violate Malum In Se through the act of murder, robbery, rape, etc., will be dissuaded from using a firearm during the aforementioned acts by a new Malum Prohibitum statute is the height of childish naivete and blind, emotionally driven foolishness.

Considering the previous facts, supposed gun control laws have only one true legitimate target; the civilian. Only law-abiding citizens are genuinely effected by further restrictions. Ergo, gun control is tantamount civilian or citizen disarmament, it cannot and does not affect anyone else.

3 Steps

#1  Self-Defense

Ask you subject whether or not a man or a woman (any human being) has a legitimate right to self-defense. Does a person posses the legal right to defend themselves against unlawful attack? If the person you are speaking to hesitates and says anything but “yes”, your conversation is over. Should the subject say “yes, but?” then they do not believe it. They are a slave to the state and cannot be saved. You are finished with them, move on with your life.

“A man who cannot be persuaded to take up arms, even in the defense of that which he holds most dear, even for the protection of his own life, is the most selfish and vile of all creatures.  That creature is no man at all and deserves neither respect nor serious consideration.”
